Hi, I'm Kimmie!

Here's a little bit more about me!

I have had over 30 years of experience in the music world. I began singing and playing piano at a very young age, and have sung with choirs for as long as I can remember. As I grew I added more instruments including violin, dulcimer, concertina, flute, clarinet, oboe, cello, and most recently mandolin. I've even had a short go with harp and bagpipes.

When I was approximately 10 years old I began sailing aboard a tall ship by the name of the Kalmar Nyckel and while learning the ways of the seas, I also was steeped in shanty and sailing songs. My love of folk music grew immensley. Singing those songs together on the ship was one of the few ways of entertainment we had, and I see now what a special bond that gave us as a crew.

In my high school years I had the pleasure of attending Cab Calloway School of the Arts in Wilmington, Delaware where I majored in Vocal Performance and Musical Theater. It was here where my love for performance and the arts community was really solidified.

After some college in Delaware, a LOT of life happened. And as it did, my plans for music school and a teaching certificate faded...but not completely.

During a transitional time in my life in my late 20's, I picked up my violin after a decade and began playing with a worship band at Sunrise Community Church. This was the reminder I needed to open my heart to music again.

In Spring 2021 I began attending Austin Community College as a Vocal Performance where I refired my music studies, learning opera roles, and started professional training as a vocalist.

I am currently enrolled as a Junior at Texas State University as a Choral Conducting major. This has been a long time dream and the degree is within my grasp! I hope to continue to build on my skills throughout my life and grow my art. I love passing my knowledge of music on to others in a way that is easy to comprehend for them. I enjoy getting to know how my student's brains work and find a way they can most easily access the new information.
