How to Become a Student
Here is more information about becoming a student at Kimmie's Keys
Here are steps you should take before beginning piano lessons:
Obtain a piano or an electronic keyboard to have at home. The other things that are needed are a bench that fits you, the piano, and the area you will have the instrument in. The piano should be in an area that is commonly used or walked by with minimal distractions around. A sustain pedal will be used after a few months of lessons, but not required if you are a brand new pianist.
Decide what your goals are! I have had many students have very specific goals, such as being able to play Christmas carols for family during the holidays. There are also students who just want to "get better" and be able to read music and play just to enjoy themselves.
Did you nail steps one and two already?! Then - Please fill out the New Student Registration Form! Just click on those same words from the drop down list on my website.
I will contact you to set up a free assessment! That might sound scary, but its really just you and me getting to know each other and I'll discover where you are musically. We'll clap some rhythms, and I'll ask you to sing back notes and patterns to me. There is no embarrassment here! Even if you're not here to sing and you think you sound a certain way - this is still a chance for me to learn how well you can hear pitches and dynamics. I also like to know some things about you personally - this helps me understand how you like to learn and what motivates you. I appreciate and meet you, my student, as you are and where you're at.
We set up a good time for both of us to have weekly or bi-weekly lessons. Weekly lessons are strongly encouraged. Traditionally, you will come to my home and we will work in my studio. Unless we have another agreement already set upon when signing on, all lessons will be held at my studio.
Payment - I have different payment options that can work for most. This includes paying in full for a month or 3 months (discount applied when paying in full) or paying per lesson. When paying in full, this also provides makeup lessons if proper notice was given before the missed lesson.
We sign a contract! Again, this isn't scary. It's a full understanding of what you can expect from me and our lessons, as well as my expectations of you.
Begin Lessons! Aaaaand...we're off!
Note: Voice Lessons will also have the same process. While a piano is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED for voice lessons, it wont be required if the student can record the lessons and we can record exercises for them to practice with.
